Jimmie Dan Cain, Sr., 86, of Ridgeland was called home to be with the Lord on May 18, 2018, at his home, surrounded by peace and love.
A visitation honoring his life was held Tuesday, May 22, 2018, at Natchez Trace Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life Service was held Wednesday, May 23, 2018, with a visitation prior to the service. A graveside service followed in Natchez Trace Memorial Park Cemetery in Madison, MS.
Jimmie was born in Vivian, LA, to the late Paul Carnes & Rosie Ellington Cain on March 22, 1932. He moved at a young age to Kosciusko, MS, where he would attend and graduate from Kosciusko High School. Following graduation, he joined the United States Marines and proudly served his country in the Korean War. On his return home, he attended Mississippi College where he graduated with special distinction with his Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry, later completing a master’s degree at the University of North Carolina in the same discipline. His career as a chemist at Mississippi State University and the Mississippi State Chemical Laboratory spanned 38 years. He was an outstanding research scientist in the field of environmental residues chemistry and was instrumental in the awarding of multiple federally-funded research programs to his laboratory.
His interests included daily sudoku challenges and avid reading. He loved to travel, visit with friends and family, and enjoy a good meal, particularly sweet potatoes in any form. In earlier days, his second love was riding motorcycles, which he enjoyed until his health prevented.
He loved his cats, of which there were many across the course of his life, and will be sorely missed by his current pair, Buddy and Leo.
Above all, he loved his family. He was a kind and generous person who loved life and was guided through it by an unshakable faith in God and Christ. His sweet temperament and easygoing nature made him a natural friend to many people across all walks of life and from many distant lands.
A very special thanks goes to all the caregivers over the last few years who kept him safe at home, with extra gratitude to Pam Cross and Beverly Shurden. And to two extraordinary people, Amaris Robertson and Britney Henry, your kindness and loving attention to him will never be forgotten and know that he loved you as family.
He is preceded in passing by his loving parents, Paul & Rosie Cain, and one brother, John Robert Cain.
He is survived by his loving companion Donna Kaye Cassell of Ridgeland, MS.; one son, Jimmie D Cain II and his wife Suzanne of Union, MS.; one sister, Katherine Gould and her husband James of Brandon, MS.; one sister-in-law, Beth Cain of Kosciusko, MS., two brothers, Paul Gene Cain and his wife Paulette of Kosciusko, MS., and David Cain and his wife Kathy of Greenville, SC.; former wife, Alice Cain of Starkville, MS; two grandsons, Jimmie D Cain III and Dylan Cain of Union MS.; and a host of loving nieces and nephews.
Bro. Andrew Stoddard officiated the service.
