Gerald L. Tomasovsky, a retired Colonel in the Mississippi National Guard, passed away at home on Saturday, Jan. 6, at the age of 72.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 9, at Culpepper Funeral Home Chapel; burial to follow at Parkway Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. prior to services. Rev. Jerry Meggs will officiate.
Gerald retired from the State of Mississippi, having worked with the Mississippi National Guard, Jackson State University and Mississippi Department of Human Services, serving a total of 27 1/2 years.
During his state service, he served as Director of Purchasing, Director of Property Management and State Engineer Officer. Gerald earned Bachelor’s degrees in Business, Liberal Arts and Civil Engineering. He also earned his MBA. He was a Certified Professional Property Manager and Officer for the federal and state government.
Gerald proudly served his country with over 40 years of military service with the United States Army, Mississippi Army National Guard and the U.S. Army Reserves.
He retired from the Mississippi Army National Guard at the rank of Colonel, with many decorations, citations and awards.
Gerald enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was an avid outdoorsman, with a passion for teaching and participating in all archery related events.
Gerald is survived by his wife of 47 years, June Estep Tomasovsky; daughters, J.J. (Bill) Farrior; Katrina (Stevie) Overstreet; grandchildren, Hunter, Chase and Breck Farrior, Jana and Peyton Overstreet, Nicholas Gardner; brothers, Joe Tomasovsky and David Tomasovsky.
He is preceded in death by his father, Joseph Tomasovsky; mother, Ruby Sumerall Jordan; daughter, Angel Gardner.
