Floyd Edwin McKenzie, Sr. was born in Eufala, Ala., on January 9, 1919. He passed away January 4, 2017 in Vaiden.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, January 7, at St. Bernard Memorial Funeral Home in Chalmette, La., with burial to follow at St. Bernard Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will begin at noon prior to services.
He had been a resident of New Orleans, for 57 years and a resident of Kosciusko, since 2005.
He was a member of First Baptist Church of Arabi, La. He worked in the Civilian Conservation Corps, also known as the CC Camp, from 1937 to 1939. He was a baker for 43 years working at Betsy Ross Bakery in Hattiesburg, and at Sunbeam Bakery in New Orleans, until he retired at the age of 63 years.
He is survived by his daughter, Linda Kay Crowe ( Bobby) of Kosciusko; two sisters, Edna Polkinhorn of Mesquite, Texas and Barbara Seal of Star; two daughters-in-law, Lynn McKenzie of Metairie, La. and Maureen S. Lovell of Cumming,Ga.; six grandchildren, John McKenzie, Jr. ( Maureen) of Kenner, La., Jimmy McKenzie (Suzette) and Patricia McKenzie of Metairie, La., Matthew McKenzie ( Cathy) of Seattle, Wash; Amy Mardis (Chris) of Madison, and Stacy McKenzie of Slidell, La.; eleven great-grandchildren, Dustin McKenzie, Cody McKenzie, John Jacob McKenzie, Amber McKenzie, Nicholas McKenzie, Noah McKenzie, Katie McKenzie, Kristin McKenzie, Caroline Mardis, Hannah Mardis, Ali Gonzales; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Lillie McKenzie; his loving wife Allene Holmes McKenzie; three sons, Floyd Edwin McKenzie, Jr., William Keith McKenzie, John Ernest McKenzie, Sr.; two brothers, Buford McKenzie and Cecil McKenzie; sister, Ruth Jones.
