Funeral services for David L. O’Briant, 87, of Ridgecrest, La., went home to be with the Lord on Friday, June 2, 2017. Funeral services were held on Monday, June 5, 2017, at Young’s Funeral Home in Ferriday, La., at 7 p.m., with Rev. Don Bush and Rev. Dennis Baker officiating.
Burial was on Tuesday, June 6, 2017 at 1 p.m. at Doty Springs Cemetery in Attala County.
Visitation was held on Monday evening at Young’s Funeral Home from 5 until 7 p.m.
Mr. O’Briant was born in Kosciusko, to David Lewis, Sr. and Annie O’Briant on May 15, 1930. He was a member of Ridgecrest Baptist Church. He enlisted in the US Navy in 1950 and was a veteran of the Korean War. He graduated from Mississippi College and worked as an accountant at International Paper, Concordia School Board, and Fidelity Tire until he retired. He served his community for most of his life. He served as the Chairman of the Board of Directors, Old South Federal Credit Union, and Mayor of the Town of Ridgecrest for many years. He also served as deacon and Sunday school teacher at Ridgecrest Baptist Church until recently.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his youngest son, Jay O’Briant; and one sister, Mary Edwards.
He leaves behind his beloved wife of 63 years, Margie Ray O’Briant, of Ridgecrest; one son, Jeffery David O’Briant and his wife Marsha of Walland, Tenn.; one daughter, Cathy O. Riggs and husband Mel of Ridgecrest; four grandchildren, Micah Riggs, Cameron David O’Briant, Autumn Brooke O’Briant, and Julia Karen O’Briant; five step grandchildren, Amber Faith Jennings, Steven Tyler Jennings, Kerri Sessions, and Matthew Bullen; and two sisters.
Pallbearers were Paul Harris, Charles Cain, Charles Gamberi, Ben Blackmon, Larry Whittington, and Jay White. Micah Riggs served as an honorary pallbearer.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Doty Springs Baptist Church-Cemetery Fund 2491 Co Rd. 5205, Ethel, MS 39067.
