Two local federal aid road projects are progressing ahead of schedule.
Christian Gardner of Gardner Engineering told the Attala County Board of Supervisors Monday morning that work is nearly complete on a project near the Sugar Creek Bridge and another on Hwy. 407 is moving extremely fast.
“Paving and grass should be finished early in the week and I expect the guardrails and striping to be put down later on in the week,” Gardner told the supervisors about the project north of Kosciusko. “The hope is to have the road open for traffic by the weekend.”
The other federal aid project on Hwy. 407 is in the early stages, with the county recently receiving the environmental report from the state.
“We are getting to work to address issues with the environmental report and then the county can start gaining right-of-ways,” Gardner added.
In other action the supervisors:
• approved the election for election commissioner position;
• approved a payment totaling $13,969.71 to Gardner Engineering;
• denied a request for a tax refund from Gerry Mims;
• approved a contract with Gary Shane for elevator inspections in the county.
