Sixteenth Section and personnel matters, approval of field trips along with the 2016-2017 school calendar dominated the April meeting of the Attala County School Board.
Concerning 16th Section, the $112,988 timber bid on 45 acres submitted by B&G Wood was accepted and bids by Charles Donald Pulpwood were accepted on saw timber, pulpwood, pine chip and hardwood pulpwood from 195 acres. The board also approved withholding three acres of hardwood timber worth $1,350 from a timber sale on 16-13-6 following the request of leaseholder John Shaw of Madison who will reimburse that amount to the school district. Due to unfavorable marketing condition, Charles Donald was granted a six-month extension on cutting in 16-16-8. A 30-day notification of the cancellation of a lease held by Charles Harmon was approved.
Substitute teachers approved were Willie Carter for Long Creek, Dennis Adams for Ethel High School and Lynn Dees for Greenlee Elementary. Pathenia McMicheal was hired as an assistant teacher at Greenlee.
Permission for field trips was granted for Long Creek Elementary students to make an incentive trip to Memphis; zoology and biology students to make a trip to veterinary school at Mississippi State University; Greenlee students to attend a Mississippi Braves game on April 20.
Tony Holder, president of the Mississippi Association of Career Tech Education, was granted permission to attend a regional conference in San Antonio, Texas.
Other business included accepting the donation of a vehicle from the City of Kosciusko and two vehicles from the Attala County Sheriff Dept. for the Career Tech Center; approval to dispose of five buses and advertise for sale; approval of March 28 as a holiday which had previously been designated as a snow day.
On Tuesday, April 5, Superintendent Bryan Weaver and members of the board will make a visit to each of the schools.
