The Kosciusko School District is still without an administrator at its high school.
Monday night, the district board of trustees voted to move on from Superintendent Gina Smith’s nomination, Brandon Quinn, after hours of debate in executive session.
This move came after concerns from trustees about Quinn coming from the same school district as Smith. Quinn was nominated to the board from a committee made up of various administrators.
Quinn is the current principal at Alcorn Central High School. He was hired by Smith when she was superintendent at Alcorn County School District.
In other action the board unanimously agreed to promote former assistant Jackie McElwain to take the reigns as the new principal at the junior high.
Other hires approved on Monday included Tristan Howell as assistant principal at junior high, Kristel Thrash as a counselor, along with Cherri Hunt, Monica James, Moteka Beechamp, Christi Freeny, Laura Nabors, Jessica Dawson, Kim Mitchell, Summer Burns, Lauren Utroska, Ashley Moore, Tasha Grantham, Kayjowom Houston, Robin Cain, Candace Moore, Hannah Watson, Lacie Carlisle and Kim McDaniel as teachers. Greg Cooper was hired as a para professional for special education and Mamy Gumbs was hired as a cafeteria worker.
Resignations were accepted from Roger Hill, Trac Baughn, Marie Peeler, Steven Overstreet, Kimberly Jackson, Amy Curtis, Marsha Marquerdt and Shanika Hickmon.
In other action the board took no action on a bid of $84,800 per unit for seven modular classrooms for the pre-kindergarten program. The bid was from Lamar Manufacutered Homes. The project was scheduled to be completed by Aug. 1.
Other items approved included
• software purchases totaling $21,889.60 for the special education program;
• approved a bid of $21,289 for a 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 extended cab for the maintenance department;
• approved payment of unused sick days for employees;
• set next meeting for July 18 to set the 2016-17 budget calendar.
