Attala County is one of 19 new counties where a mask mandate is in effect, after Gov. Tate Reeves added them to the 22 counties previously listed.
The 19 new counties are Alcorn, Attala, Bolivar, Chickasaw, Choctaw, Jefferson Davis, Jones, Lafayette, Lawrence, Lincoln, Lowndes, Neshoba, Panola, Perry, Prentiss, Stone, Tippah, Tishomingo, and Union.
The previous 22 counties were Benton, Carroll, Covington, DeSoto, Forrest, Harrison, Hinds, Humphreys, Itawamba, Jackson, Lamar, Lauderdale, Leflore, Lee, Madison, Marshall, Montgomery, Pontotoc, Rankin, Tate, Winston, and Yalobusha.
The decision comes after case numbers released Tuesday included 53 new deaths, the third-highest single day number during the pandemic thus far.
In addition to mandatory mask-wearing, social gatherings must be limited to no more than 10 people indoors or 50 people in an outdoor setting.
