Jordan Funeral Home will move into a new location in Kosciusko this weekend with open house at the new facility on Highway 12 east set for Saturday and Sunday. Its former home on North Jackson St. will become part of Atwood Pontiac-Olds Auto Agency. It has been in Kosciusko for 65 years since L.W. Jordan Sr. founded it in 1904. His son, Hunter Jordan Sr., is owner-general manager, and his son, H. Hunter Jordan Jr. is on leave of absence while serving with the army at a mortuary in DaNang, Vietnam.

A young Kosciusko draftee into the Marine Corps was killed in Vietnam fighting two days before the Christmas truce, his relatives were notified during the holidays. The victim was Pfc. Dwight Hodges, 20, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Claude Hodges of Love Rd. His wife, the former Jane Bingham, is expecting the couple’s first child within a few days.

Winners in the annual Christmas lighting contest in Sallis were Mrs. A.A. Long’s door, chosen as best in town in all categories; Eldridge Burrell home, interior, best in its category; window of Mrs. Smith Hughes, best in window division; best door, home of Mrs. Jack Ables; best overall, the H.L. Dodd home.

The Attala Company has greeted Mr. and Mrs. Louis Montesi Jr. and their two year old daughter Kristian, as recent newcomers to Kosciusko. Mr. Montesi is the owner and general manager of the new Liberty Supermarket in Kosciusko.

Waste Management of Northwest Mississippi will stop service to about 1,000 customers in rural Attala County this week because they have never paid since the company started garbage collections in August. That means only one-fourth of the potential of more than 4,000 customers are paying, though about 2,800 have signed up for the service which costs $8.50 a month, said Waste Management General Manager Earl Sams.

Ambulance competition is over with a buyout. Attala Ambulance has bought out Goss Ambulance. The Board of Supervisors voted to let Attala Ambulance buy out Goss’ contract with the county, which expires Sept; 30. The Kosciusko Board of Aldermen agreed to the buyout of the contract with the city.

The Board of Trustees of the Attala County Schools has voted to advertise for bids for the sale of the old school building and teachers home located on six acres of land in Sallis. The school building has not been used since the mid 1960s and is in disrepair.
Preston “Buster” Hughes has been named Parent of the Year by the administration and teachers of the Kosciusko City Schools.

Telescopes will be available for checkout beginning Monday at the Attala County Library. The two telescopes are on loan from Holmes Community College. They were bought with a grant acquired by Michael Burchfield, a professor at HCC.
