With the 2018 Natchez Trace Festival, Amy Rawson is completing her second year serving as chairman of the annual event.
However, she will not be completing her involvement with the festival. “I will continue to support it and help in its promotion,” she said.
She recalled her first experience with the festival when her mother told her they were going to what her ears interpreted as the Natchez Trace Vegetable
“I thought of a vegetable stand and was not excited about going, but it turned out be one of my best times as a kid,” she said.
The two-time chairman said she will end her tenure with a knowledge of how vital sponsors are and the effort that goes into all the activities held in conjunction.
In December, personnel of the Kosciusko-Attala Partnership office begins taking on the festival mode with the chairman. Contacts are made with previous vendors with invitations to return and arrangements are made for new vendors, entertainment and various other details. The momentum increases until the last Saturday in April which is synonymous with Natchez Trace Festival.
“G.G. and Pati are the backbone,” said Amy.
A new feature this year will be karaoke competition on Friday night with cash prizes. It will be held on a stage adjacent to the Momba section. Helicopter rides which were offered for several years are returning.
The chairman said she has enjoyed her role in the festival and is looking forward to continuing her support. “I feel my purpose is helping others and I will do my part in being involved,” she said.
