Carmack Fish House 4th of July Fireworks
Carmack Fish House Fourth of July Fireworks show is getting bigger and better this year as friends and neighbors in the Carmack Community Club donate their time, money and the community center to ensure a safe and fun-filled evening is enjoyed by more people. The festivities will be held at the community center instead of the restaurant this year. Bouncy houses will be available for the children starting at 6 p.m., and there will be an Elvis impersonator performing at that time as well. By 6:30 p.m., the hot dogs will start coming off the grill; they are free. At 7:30, things really get going when a local live band hits the stage and at dark, there will be prayer and the pledge of allegiance before the fireworks display commences. Bring your cooler and lawn chairs or blankets, but no alcohol is allowed. Parking will be available at the Fish House and shuttle vehicles will be available to the community center to minimize overcrowding. Some parking will be available at the community center, as well. Donations are welcome to help with expenses, but are not required. Everyone is welcome to come celebrate.
Attala County Library closed for July 4
The Attala County Library will be closed for the holiday on Wednesday, July 4, for Independence Day.
Annual Kosy Pops concert June 28
The Kosciusko-Attala Historical Society will host the Annual Kosy Pops Concert Thursday, June 28, at 7 p.m. in the Mary Ricks Thornton Cultural Center. The concert will feature a Salute to the Armed Forces, as well as performances by local musicians. The public is invited to attend this concert free of charge. Refreshments, provided by Prairie Farms, will be served following the concert.
The Salute to the Armed Forces will feature area men who have served in the military. They are Gene Dismuke representing the United States Army; Paul Gundy representing the United States Navy; Bill Walker representing the United States Coast Guard; Frank Shaw and Donny Sims representing the United States Air Force and Jack Holmes and James Malone representing the United States Marines.
Kosy Pops Performers will include Jessica Miles, Sissy Lindsay, Lauren Lindsay, Layna Richardson, Chloe Cloninger, B.J. Jenkins, Melanie Newman, Lawrence Routt, Shelby Jones, Don Weaver, Marvin Myles and Grant Gregory.
Public Hearing regarding water rate increase
Northern District Public Service Commissioner Brandon Presley announced today that he will hold a public hearing regarding a request by the Mississippi Water Company to increase rates for water service in their certified area in Attala County.
The public hearing will be held on Monday, July 2, at 6:00 p.m.at the Attala County Courthouse, located at 100 Courthouse, in Kosciusko.
Citizens with concerns or questions will be allowed to speak as public witnesses and have their comments placed on the official record of the case before the Public Service Commission. Please help us notify the public of this important hearing.

Donors will receive a limited edition T-shirt (while supplies last). All donors will be registered in the MBS Save Our Summer $1,000 Giveaway for a chance to win $1,000!
The Save Our Summer $1,000 Giveaway summer promotion, which runs through Saturday, August 18, is now under way. ‘Libraries Rock’ programs scheduled
“Libraries Rock” is the theme for the 2018 Summer Library Program co-sponsored by the Attala County Library and the Mississippi Library Commission. Children are encouraged to read through the summer and attend programs and fun activities that include Freedom Ranch with animal friends on July 3. All of these programs will be held at the Attala County Coliseum at 10 a.m. The final event will be Chester Drawers, held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, July 12, at the coliseum. These programs are for children 3-12 years of age. Programs are free and open to the public.
Bobcat School Reunion
It is time for the Bobcat School Reunion. The reunion will be held on July 6 to 8, at the Bobcat Building on Tipton Street. We are celebrating the 12th reunion over a span of 34 years. Our 2018 reunion theme is Bobcat Legacy: Reconnect, Rejuvenate, Re-engage. We are kicking off the reunion with a Super Bowl Bash on Friday night and wear your favorite team jersey. The 11th Annual Sallis Day Festival will be Saturday, July 7, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in downtown Sallis. There will be live entertainment. Historical Highlight luncheon
The July 10 speaker will be Karen Winter, 1974 FCA graduate. Her topic will be “Treasures in the Alumni Museum.” Historical Highlight Luncheons are held the second Tuesday of each month at French Camp Presbyterian Church, featuring a speaker who shares some aspect of French Camp history and a delicious, home-cooked meal for a $2 donation.
