Attala County library closed March 23
The Attala County public library will be closed on March 23 so that employees can attend a regional staff meeting.
NAACP monthly meeting
The NAACP monthly meeting will be Thursday, March 22, at 6 p.m. at the CMC building.
C.H.I.L.D. Ahead project egg hunt
The C.H.I.L.D. Ahead project will hold its 31st annual Easter egg hunt on March 31 at 3 p.m. in front of the Attala County Coliseum. Children ages 3 to 10 are welcome but must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. The event was founded by Kosciusko Alderman Henry Daniel.
Ethel to start conversations about healthy communities
Ethel Mayor Gwen Sims will hold a city forum “Starting Conversations about Healthy Communities,” on March 22 at Ethel City Hall from 6 to 7 p.m. The Mayor is establishing a Mayoral Health Council to find ways of making the community a healthier place to live.
Similar councils have been established throughout Mississippi, particularly in the Delta region of the state, with the assistance of the Mississippi State Department of Health Office of Preventive Health. Once formed, mayoral health councils implement plans to improve health needs specific to their city or town. Community involvement, volunteerism, and support have increased in these areas as the community is becoming more involved in activities concerning youth, and older adults are becoming more health conscious. The focus of the Mayoral Health Council is on increasing access to recreation and to fresh and healthy foods, and decreasing tobacco exposure. The long term goal is to dramatically and meaningfully alter conditions for and social determinants of improved health in our community.

Egg Hunt March 31
On Saturday, March 31, the courthouse lawn in downtown Kosciusko will be the location of an Easter Egg Hunt at 11 a.m.
Picking 35 and free concert April 7
Plans are underway for the second annual Picking 35, slated for Saturday, April 7. Picking 35 is a 50-mile stretch of yard sales beginning in Attala County near Carmack that runs down Highway 35 through Kosciusko, Carthage and then ending into South Leake County at Walnut Grove. Dust off those dancing shoes for this one!
Spring Plant Swap
The Flora Spring Plant Swap, scheduled for 9 a.m. Thursday, March 29, will be held in the Flora Library meeting room. Bring one or two well-rooted plants to swap, and others if you want to share. Directions to the swap: Taking Hwy 49 to Flora, the South Flora exit at the Bank of Yazoo, the library is about a mile on the right. From Hwy 22, the library is a block off Main Street.
