Kosciusko School District is partnering with Millcreek of Ponotoc Schools in Kosciusko to serve special needs students.
The Board of Trustees approved the agreement at its monthly meeting last Tuesday night that will send students with extreme cases to the new school that officially opened last month.
According to the agreement, Millcreek will work and house the students at a rate of $176 per day. Kosciusko currently has four students attending the school.
In other business, the board tabled a request to transfer funds from the capital projects fund to the District 1120 fund. This move was requested for proposed improvements to the district baseball field.
The improvement project called for bricking the backstop, dugouts and press box at a price not to exceed $26,000. According to Superintendent Gina Smith, the project was requested to make the baseball field look more like the football field exterior. However, trustees voted to table the project in an attempt to possibly add work for the softball field to the project.
Other action taken by the board include
• approving the leasing four plots of section -16 land at $8 per acre;
• approving the movement of SPED monies to purchase I-pads for program;
• tabling an action to create a Director of Operations for the district, which would be responsible for transportation, safety and accountability requirements of facilities;
• approving the hiring of a positive behavior specialist for the Success School;
• approving the resignation of Billie Jamison as assist KHS girls’ basketball coach and naming Derrick Huffman as the replacement;
• approving the hiring of Donna McLellan as a teacher and Allen Carroll as KJH band teacher;
The next scheduled meeting of the Kosciusko Board of Trustee will be Dec. 12 at the administration building.
