A Polish professor at the University of Krakow on sabbatical leave was in Kosciusko last week visiting the town which was named after his claimed great-great-grandfather.
Janowicz Kosciuskkoz, 86, said his travels started in Green Bay, Wis., where he visited with his daughter. “She insisted that I not travel alone, so my companion is a cat,” he said.
He has traveled through Illinois, Missouri, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas and Louisiana before arriving in Mississippi. He said he has visited historical sites along his route. He stopped in Vicksburg for a tour of the National Military Park.
From Kosciusko he said he will travel the Natchez Trace Parkway to Tennessee and a visit to Shiloh Park was on his agenda.
In Kosciusko, he visited the Museum and Visitors Center adjacent to the Natchez Trace where he saw the wax figure of Kosciuszko and the scale model of West Point Military Academy which designed by his alleged great-great grandfather. Downtown he visited the courthouse square and the Redbud Springs Park and statue of Kosciusko.
