The Kosciusko School District Board of Trustees received the final draft of the 2019 fiscal year budget at the Monday school board meeting.
The total projected revenue is $20,400,718. It marks a $553,012 increase in the current operating budget.
The budget is scheduled to be approved at a Special Called Meeting at noon on July 30.
School district business manager Sandy McBride, who presented the budget, alerted the board to an anticipated cost spike of $950,000 in the 2019-20 school year, due to an increase in the district contributions to PERS (Public Education Retirement System).
In other business, the board accepted the donation of $45,000 from Gerard Welch, intended to build soccer practice fields for the high school on land near Landrum Field that the city obtained from Attala County ownership.
Superintendent Billy Ellzey notified members that bidding for the district security projects will open on July 23.
Ellzey also said that the 2018 student handbooks will be issued primarily online, though printed copies will be maintained at every school.
In personnel matters, the board accepted letters of resignation from Susan Byers (child nutrition), Rachel Deason (KJH), Tammy Lawrence (KUE) and Cole McBride (KJH), and approved the hire of David Casteel, Amanda Dean, Jackson Ellard and Holly Reeves as teachers for the upcoming year.
