Approximately $2,000 was added over the weekend to the fund for making repairs to the vandalized statue of Laura Van Mitchell Kelly in the Kosciusko City Cemetery.
Copies of the book, “The Lady in the Cemetery,” were sold and autographed by its author, Laura Ann Hooff Kline of Phoenixville, Pa., great-granddaughter of Mrs. Kelly.
While in Kosciusko, Mrs. Kline and her husband visited the home of Coco and Joel Regan, 309 E. Jefferson Street, the residence of Mrs. Kelly as she watched the construction of the house being built for her by her husband at 310 E. Jefferson. The Klines visited that residence which her great-grandmother did not live to occupy.
In addition to visiting the gravesite and statue of her great-grandmother, the Klines visited the Mary Ricks Thornton Cultural Center, the First United Methodist Church and Scoobachitta Bottom Cemetery in the Bethel Community.
The book author said that by sharing her factual account of the life of Laura Kelly she hoped that stories and myths could be laid to rest.
A limited number of books are still available at $50 for hardback and $25 for paperback.
