The final payment of $38,500 to Cain, Inc. for cleanup at the site of the former Leonard’s Department Store was approved by the Kosciusko Board of Aldermen on Tuesday night. An additional payment of $5,705.82 to the City of Louisville for the disposal of debris collected at the site was also approved.
A handful of small, end-of-the-year adjustments made to the fiscal year 2018 budget were approved. An itemized list is available at City Hall for those interested.
Aldermen approved a memorandum of understanding that must be filed with the state for the city to receive the $750,000 that has been allotted to it in relation to the recent reorganization of BP funds distribution.
Mayor Jimmy Cockroft was granted permission by the board to begin exploring possible replacements for the city welcome sign that was located at the intersection of S. Huntington St. and Veterans Memorial Drive. A one-car accident on Friday, Sept. 14, destroyed the previous sign. It is the first step in the process, but the mayor noted that there are monies in the Charette Fund that could possibly be used.
Though no plans have been made, it was mentioned that the gravel may be replaced with vegetation.
The position of city clerk has yet to be filled and applications are being accepted until Sept. 27. In the interim, the board approved a motion to pay former city clerk Hart Pettit an hourly wage, equal to his previous rate, for any work he may be needed for.
