A new comprehensive plan and zoning ordinance was adopted by city officials Tuesday night during the bi-monthly meeting of the Kosciusko Board of Aldermen.
“The comprehensive plan works very close to identifying potential future land use for the city and will help the city when discussing a change in zoning,” said Mike Slaughter, of Slaughter and Associates who prepared the plans for the city. “It is goals and adjectives to where we would like to be 25 years from now with jobs, housing, transportation, education and so forth.”
The plan also contains future plans for each department within the city, without restraints of a budget.
“We wanted to give the city of Kosciusko the best plan for the future,” Slaughter added.
Slaughter recommended the comprehensive plan and zoning ordinance be updated every five years.

In other business the aldermen:
• reappointed Randolph Cheek to a five-year term on the planning commission;
• approved $3,000 in funding to continue a discloser agreement for a bond for streets.
All aldermen were present with Mayor Jimmy Cockroft absent.
The next scheduled meeting of the Kosciusko Board of Aldermen will be Feb. 7 at 5:30 p.m. inside Kosciusko City Hall.
