A sewer leak caused a large sinkhole on Veterans Memorial Drive near Goodys on Wednesday afternoon.
"There was a dip in the road that had gotten worse this morning and MDOT did fill it in earlier today with patching material," Kosciusko Mayor Jimmy Cockroft said. "We, the City, had arranged for a company to come tomorrow to put cameras in the line to see exactly what the problem was and had contacted our City Engineer to begin to seek a contractor to make whatever repairs were necessary once they were identified. Once the road caved all the way in we had to go to straight to the contractor which is scheduled to be here first thing in the morning to make the repair to the sewer line."
The broken sewer line in the road is a 15" sewer line and roughly 12-15 foot deep.
"Based on where it is located we feel like an outside contractor is the safest and best way for this repair to be made," Cockroft added. "We apologize for any inconvience this may cause our citizens and those passing through this area."
Expect closed lanes and delayed traffic in that area over the coming days as repairs are being made.
