KPD Police Chief Herbert Dew said Tuesday that one juvenile had been arrested in relation to an online threat against Kosciusko Junior High School that was posted Monday and then shared around the community.
“We followed the digital footprint, which lead us to him,” Dew said of the unnamed KJHS student who has now been transferred to the Greenwood Juvenile Detention Center. He is expected to face charges in Youth Court.
Dew said the threat appears to involve only that one individual and that it appeared to be an idle threat.
“I don’t believe he had any means to carry out the threat,” said the Chief.
Still, he said, the department takes all threats seriously.
“We’re going to treat them as real and prusue them to the full extent of the law,” he said. “We worked this case in conjunction with the A.G.’s Office, the Jackson FBI, and the D.A.’s Office here, and we received help from the public, as well.”
