The synthesis of input from more than 1,000 people, the strategic plan adopted by the Kosciusko School Board Monday night will guide the district for the next five years.
According to Dr. James Hutto of Impact Education Group, the consultancy that led the planning effort for the district, this strategic plan differs from other districts’ in its unique focus on desired outcomes rather than on components or functions within the district.
More than 40 people served on the main committee, including 20 from the general community. A stakeholder survey drew 933 responses — 262 from parents, 474 from students, 160 from staff, and 37 from the community.
The key stakeholder committee met twice during the process, setting goals, creating a mission statement and developing five goals that will be pursued simultaneously. Each goal area is then broken down into a set of strategies including both action plans and measures of success.
The plan begins with statements of the districts beliefs, missions and goals.
Beliefs
The plan lists the following beliefs:
We believe the education process includes schools, families and community.
We believe our schools will prepare students for a purpose-driven life.
We believe a safe, positive school culture will instill pride in our community.
We believe everyone is a teacher.
We believe relationships matter.
We believe highly-effective teachers are essential to student success.
We believe every student deserves a quality education.
Mission
The plan includes a mission statement to guide the district for the next five years.
“The Kosciusko School District, in partnership with families and community, will build relationships and provide quality education to empower students to become productive students.”
Goals
The plan details five major goals, along with defining strategies for attaining them and the means by which success will be measured:
Communication: Effectively and actively demonstrate transparent communications to parents, students, staff and community.
Productive Citizens: Prepare students to be effective, life-long communicators, critical thinkers, problem-solvers and leaders of high character.
Positive Relationships: Ensure a positive school culture that encourages positive relationships among parents, students, staff and community.
Cultural Understanding: Teach and model cultural understanding that leads to the respect of differences.
Competition: Create an environment where parents, students, staff and community will clearly see our schools are the best choice.
