Some residential users could see more than $4 per month increase
Following four years of stable pricing, Kosciusko Water & Light has announced rate increases that could amount to more than $4 per month in additional costs for the 3,400 homes the agency serves.
In a public notice, the reasons for the rate increases include additional increased costs in production, chemicals, maintenance and repair, and labor, as well as meeting regulatory requirements.
In city
For 3/4-inch water meter service, customers inside the city are currently charged $13 for a minimum of 4,000 gallons, with $2 more charged for each additional 1,000 gallons.
Under the new rate structure, these same customers (3/4-inch) will be charged $13 for a minimum 2,000 gallons, with an added charge of $2 for each additional 1,000 gallons used.
Rates for in-city customers with one-inch to six-inch meters will also increase. In most of these cases, the amount of water received for existing prices will be cut in half. For example, a one-inch water meter customer currently receives a 6,000 gallon minimum of water for $16.55 per month. In the new model, that customer will only receive 3,000 gallons for that minimum price, with each additional 1,000 gallons costing $2.
Out of city
For 3/4-inch water meter service outside the city limits, customers are currently charged $20 for the 4,000-gallon minimum, with each additional 1,000 gallons charged at $2.
In the new rate structure, that same customer will pay $20 for half the volume — 2,000 gallons — with each additional 1,000 gallons charged at a rate of $2.25.
Like the in-city rates, out of city rates for one-inch to six-inch water meters will also reduce the amount of water received at the existing rates. One-inch meter customers currently pay $23.75 for 6,000 gallons per month, but will now only receive 3,000 gallons at that rate. Each additioanl 1,000 gallons will cost these customers $2.25.
