From livestock exhibitions to a battle of local bands, there will be a lot to do this week at the 107th annual Central Mississippi Fair in Kosciusko.
The fair officially kicks off Wednesday and will close at around midnight Saturday, August 6.
“It is going to be a very family friendly fair with many different things to do every night,” fair coordinator Patti Edwards said.
Family-friendly rides from the Ferris Wheel to the Zipper will be available, along with multiple options for entertainment and competition.
The fair runs from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday; 5 p.m. to midnight Friday and 3 p.m. to midnight Saturday.
The exhibit part of the fair will feature categories ranging from fashion and cooking to vegetables, crafts and photography.
“We have entertainment scheduled every night in the coliseum,” Edwards added. “We have some pretty good local bands and a log of local talent, which is what the fair’s about.”
Wednesday entertainment will be Attala’s Got Talent, featuring various talents of Attala County residents. It will be followed on Thursday with a hot dog eating contest on the midway entertainment stage at 5:45 p.m. and the community sports challenge at 6:30 p.m. at the football practice field. The Fairest of the Fair beauty contest will return at 7 p.m. on Friday, followed by the Battle of the Bands contest at 5 p.m. on Saturday.
A change from previous years, the livestock show will be Saturday, August 6, at the arena. It will feature steers, heifers, calves, bulls, sheeps and goats, rabbits and domestic fowl.
Admission to the fair is $6 with children 3 years and under admitted for free.
The fair is located in behind the Attala County Coliseum at the intersection of Veterans Memorial Drive and Hwy. 19. For more information call the KAP at 289-2981 or visit www.kosytrace.com online.
