Attala County Head Librarian Charla Grace has spent the last couple of weeks visiting with local officials, updating them on the library service to the community in recent months, as well as to promote the scheduled events for National Library Week
In presentations to the Attala County Board of Supervisors and the Kosciusko Board of Aldermen, she noted the services provided by the staff since January.
- There have been 11,853 patron visits to the library.
- Dial-A-Story has been called 412 times.
- 16,261 items have been loaned to members.
- 3,043 computer users have logged over 1,000 hours of library computer use.
- The Geneology Department has fielded 716 requests, 584 of them in-house.
In addition to a bluegrass concert Tuesday evening, the library was slated to host several events during the remainder of this week:
Timber Management practices presentation
On Wednesday, April 11, from noon to 1 p.m., there will be a talk on best timber management practices. A light lunch will be provided. Bill Kitchings, a graduate of MSU 1995 and registered forester, will be the presenter.
Kitchings worked with the Mississippi Forestry Commission for 22 years, worked in Leake and Attala counties as Service Forester, and in 2008 was promoted to Public Outreach Forester with the Mississippi Forestry Commission.
Remember When: With Local Historians
On Thursday, April 12, from 6 to 8 p.m., the library will host Remember When: With Local Historians. It will be an oral history of Kosciusko & Attala County featuring pictures from the Attala County Library Genealogy Collection.
Book sale
A library book sale, hosted by the Friends of the Library, will be held on Thursday and Friday, April 12 and 13, in the library garage from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Used books will be sold for prices between 25 cents and 1.00 each.
