The Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemoration Committee of Kosciusko/Attala County has announced activities scheduled to celebrate the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
The 20th Annual Image Award Banquet is scheduled for Saturday, January 13, at 7:00 p.m. at the Kosciusko High School Commons. Social hour will begin at 6:30 p.m.
This year’s Image Award will be for Christian Leadership. Additionally, Lighthouse Awards will be presented for Community, Education, Medical and Political Service.
Tickets are $20 and may be purchased from any Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Committee member. A table for six (6) may be purchased for $110.
Festivities will conclude Monday, January 15, with prayer at 9:00 a.m. Prayer will be led this year by Pastor Roosevelt Gage of Wesley United Methodist Church of Kosciusko in front of the Attala County Court House. The Wesley Youth Choir will perform at the prayer service.
Mr. Kenneth Nelson, Jr. of Kosciusko, a coach/teacher at Holmes County Central High School will be the keynote speaker at the Birthday Celebration program at the Kosciusko High School gym at 10:00 a.m. The Mt. Pilgrim Youth Choir will perform at the Birthday Celebration.
Students will be awarded prizes for the best posters and essays at the Birthday Celebration and a senior will win a $500 scholarship of their choice.
