Plans for updates and repairs at the Oprah Winfrey Boys and Girls Club are underway following Winfrey’s announcement that she is donating proceeds from the sale of her new book, “The Path Made Clear,” to the Kosciusko facility.
In making the announcement, Winfrey said everybody has a purpose and a calling and she thinks the book will help readers gain clarity about their individual purpose.
The Oprah Winfrey Boys and Girls Club opened in 2006 and was made possible by Winfrey and her foundation. Proceeds from the book sales is indicative of the ongoing financial support she has provided through the years.
Ricky Hood, Chief Executive Officer of the Kosciusko Club, said funds from the book sales will go toward upgrading technology, repairs and improvements, as needed. A new floor in the gymnasium and new air conditioning system are among first repairs, he said.
“The Boys and Girls Club was built as a community center and we would like to work with schools, clubs and organizations to fully utilize the facility. We want to invite the community to be a part of what we do,” Hood said.
The club is located at 500 Knox Road in Kosciusko.
