Nickle stamp is out for Christmas cards. There will be just one price for mailing Christmas cards this season, according to Postmaster Hilliard Jordan. All cards weighing an ounce or less must carry six cents postage, he said.

U.S. Air Force Lieutenant Colonel Lockwood B. Scoggin was presented the Distinguished Flying Cross and eight awards of the Air Medals at Norton AFB, Calif.

The Chamber of Commerce has cited three Attala County Community Development clubs for their work. Cited as blue ribbon clubs in a contest judged by the state Extension Service staff were Possumneck, Shady Grove and Zama Clubs. Clubs at Berea, Carmack and McAdams won red ribbons. Mrs. Ralph Shumaker of Zama won first prize for secretary’s record keeping and Mrs. Hiram Kettle of Possumneck was second.

Helping Hands Ministries will continue to operate for at least four more months its closing has been threatened during recent weeks because of the lack of volunteers needed to receive and sort clothing, process applicants and provide their requests. Jewel Harden, who founded the ministry seven years ago, has issued a plea for volunteers.

The effort to establish a community day-care center is moving along. Hollis Cheek, who is head of a committee that is advising the Economic Development Authority on the matter, reported that the panel has visited several local sites. The most favorable site appears to be the former Attala Christian School at Bible Baptist Church on Highway 12 west.

Frank Simpson has been named grand marshal of the Kosciusko Christmas parade.

Kinsey Lowe and Brooks Swales were presented certificates of appreciation citing them for their years of service as they recently retired from the postal service. Kosciusko Postmaster Bernice Bennett made the presentations. Lowe spent 28 years as a rural carrier on Kosciusko Route 1 and 4. Swales completed 37 years on Routes 2 and 3.
