If the saying “third time is the charm” holds true for Meredith Thomas, she will wear the Miss Mississippi crown when she returns home from the pageant in progress in Vicksburg this week.
Competing as Miss Mississippi State University, she arrived in Vicksburg last Saturday to begin rehearsals and competitions leading to the winner being named Saturday night. She finished in the top five last year.
She is a native of Kosciusko, daughter of Eddie and Dr. Angela Thomas.
“It is an exciting time and I love every minute of it. I have enjoyed each pageant that I have been a part of. They are so much fun,” she said.
She has chosen “Serving Community Offering Rewarding Experiences,” (SCORE), as her emphasis during her representation of the title.
The 2016 production theme is “Take Back the Night.” Miss Mississippi 2006 and third runner-up to Miss America Taryn Foshee will emcee the event in the Vicksburg Convention Center.
Throughout the week she is taking part in swimsuit, evening gown and interviews. On Saturday night she will give her piano rendition of “Great Balls of Fire,” made famous by Jerry Lee Lewis.
She is a senior at MSU where she is studying for an interdisciplinary degree with minors in biology, kinesiology and psychology.
In addition to serving as Miss MSU, she is a Maroon VIP and Bully’s Belles, Student Association along with honor and social societies.
Contestants are accompanied to the pageant by Magnolia Princesses who are taking part in the pageant activities. Meredith has chosen Kayden Tyler, daughter of Bradley and Allison Tyler; Maggie Owen, daughter of Tony and Simone Owen all of Kosciusko; and Kathleen Skelton of Starkville.
Meredith thanks her family, friends and everyone who has had a part in helping her to make the pageant possible.
