A Kosciusko man who lost his life in a plane crash one year ago will soon be honored by city and county officials.
Allen Ross, the former caretaker of the Kosciusko/Attala Airport, died on March 8, 2015, when the plane he was flying crashed in a wooded area near Attala Road 1103 in the Nile community. Mark Deason, a friend of Ross, was also in the plane and died in the crash.
“We have been talking about doing something for Allen, and I think it is something that we need to do,” Kosciusko Alderman Tim Kyle said at a city meeting last week. “Allen was a huge part of this community, and he played a big role at our airport.”
The Attala County Board of Supervisors voted Monday to place at sign at the airport to honor Ross. The sign will read, “Kosciusko/Attala Airport, Allen Ross Field.”
“He loved that airport,” District 1 Supervisor Bobby Lindsay said.
District 5 Supervisor Tim Pinkard said the exact location of the sign is being worked out but expects it to be placed soon.
“We appreciate all the work that Allen put in at the airport,” Pinkard said. “He was a good man and this is a good way to honor his service to our area.”
The funds for the sign are expected to come from the airport budget.
The Kosciusko Board of Aldermen is expected to approve the sign at its next meeting on Tuesday, March 15.
