Ethel High School Principal Jim Wood has submitted his resignation after accepting a position at Choctaw County High School in Ackerman.
Wood said he decided to leave in order to spend more time with his family.
“I have thoroughly enjoyed my eight years as an Ethel Tiger. There are no hard feelings. I just want to spend more time with my family,” Wood said of his four years as football coach and assistant principal, followed by four years as principal.
“I had a great relationship with the teachers and the students. The teachers and the students made everything work. We’ve done a good job keeping that going,” he said.
Wood will teach history and coach football and girls track at Choctaw.
His resignation will be presented to the school board at its meeting May 31, according to Bryan Weaver, Attala County school superintendent.
“The position has already been posted online and applications are being accepted. After interviews we hope to make a selection by the end of June,” Weaver said.
