Holmes Attala and the Attala County Board of Supervisors were honored for the innovation behind the renovation of the community college during the supervisor’s meeting Tuesday morning.
Steve Russell with the North Central Planning and Development District presented the supervisors along with Holmes Attala Director Nancy McRight with plaques recognizing the entities for the project. The renovation project was funded through grants from the Mississippi Department of Agriculture and the Delta Regional Authority.
“We just want to thank Steve and Nancy for the hard work at securing the funding and working together along the process to get this project completed,” said Charles Fancher, District 2 supervisor and board vice president.
In other business, the supervisors approved $89,500 in funding to be paid out over three years to provide digital mapping of land plots for the tax assessor’s and collector’s offices.
“Attala County is really behind, as one of only about eight counties in the state that has not gone digital, but this project will get us up to date with the technology and help both offices significantly,” appraiser Mike Sanders said.
Other action taken by the supervisors:
• purchased a tractor, lawn mower, bushog and new pickup truck using state contracts;
• approved Attala County Sheriff Tim Nail’s request to hire Bryan Townsend as a full time officer after the resignation of Dewayne Steed;
• approved a school bus turn-around on AR 5041;
• voided a tax sale on four un-renewed 16th section leases.
