Attala County could see snow as soon as Friday afternoon according to the National Weather Service.
Winter Storm Helena dumped several feet of snow to portions of the western US early this week and then may turn its snowy and icy sights on parts of the south late this week into the weekend.
“Snow is very possible around Mississippi. However, it remains far too soon to pinpoint snow or ice forecast accumulations for any particular locations at this time,” a release from the NWS said. “This is common uncertainty several days prior to this type of event.”
As of Tuesday morning, Attala County is projected to receive snow Friday night into Saturday morning with temperatures reaching as low as 23 degrees.
“If a decent surface low-pressure system forms in response to that energy, this could enhance the potential for wintry weather,” the release added. “Conversely, a more progressive and moisture-starved system with a weak surface low would decrease the odds.”
