The Attala County Board of Supervisors began the new year Monday with three new people stepping into roles previously held by the same individuals for many years — Chancery Clerk Taylor Casey, District 2 Supervisor Billy Joe Coffee and District 4 Supervisor Willie Perteet.
The board started by voting on new officers. District 3 Supervisor Steven Goss will be board chairman and District 5 Supervisor Tim Pinkard will be vice chairman. Scott Pickle will remain board attorney, Christian Gardner will remain county and state aid engineer and Kimberly Cuny was named deputy coroner.
Following the state Legislature passage of raises for certain county personnel, the board voted to authorize those raises. The five county supervisors, two justice court judges, the attorney to the board, and the county attorney will each receive a raise of about $1,000 per year under the legislation. County supervisors will now make $41,612 annually.
The board also voted to have North Central Planning and Development continue to oversee the courthouse renovation grants, including the Mississippi Archives & History grant it voted to accept Monday.
County Engineer Christian Gardner also suggested a work session to get supervisors up-to-speed on prioritizing road and bridge projects, as well as the rules for various grant applications typically used to fund those projects.
