Events held at the Attala County Coliseum will no longer be able to sell alcohol.
Attala County Supervisors approved a motion by a 3-2 margin Monday morning to ban renters from selling alcohol on premises.
“We have been having some problems out there with some events, so I believe this should help,” said District 2 Supervisor Charles Fancher, who voted against the measure. “I don’t believe any alcohol should be allowed on the premises.”
“There are some events that insist on alcohol, so by totally banning it we would limit some people that would be renting it,” board president and District 4 Supervisor Kary Ellington said.
Another request to increase the rent rate was rejected by supervisors. Currently the county derives approximately $15K in rent per year with a cost around $100K.
“I just don’t feel that we can raise it enough to really make any difference,” District 5 Supervisor Tim Pinkard said. “Increasing it would probably hurt more than it would help.”
Other actions approved by the supervisors:
• approving a contract with Firehouse Lawn Care for lawn maintenance on county property;
• approving a rental agreement for $200 per month for $2,000 square feet at the former Jack Post Building;
• approving a bid totaling $18,700 for a 30K gallon and a 12K gallon propane tank located at the Jack Post Building;
• approving a new mail-out system for tag renewal service for the tax collector’s office;
• approving a 63-month agreement with Neopost for a postage machine;
• approving a Section-16 easement with the Willie and Joyce Estes property on N. Natchez Street.
The next scheduled meeting of the Attala County Board of Supervisors is set for March 20 at 9 a.m.
