Local law enforcement is on the lookout for a man that fled police officers from Leake County into Attala County last week.
At approximately 9:30 p.m. last Wednesday Attala County and Kosciusko authorities were notified of a BOLO (Be on the lookout) from Leake County after a stolen 2009 black Ford Mustang was traveling at a high rate of speed on Highway 35 South coming into Attala County. The vehicle was said to be drive by a white male suspect, expected to be Avery Cotton, and was considered to be armed and dangerous.
At approximately 10:15 p.m. that night an officer with the Attala County Sheriff’s Department located the stolen vehicle on Tipton Street, which ensued another high-speed chase back into Leake County. At approximately 10:18 p.m. it was reported that the subject crashed the vehicle at the intersection of Hwy. 35 south and Pumping Station road. The subject fled authorities on foot into nearby woods.
Cotton is wanted on warrants by the Attala County and Leake County Sheriff’s Office. Attala warrants included felony fleeing and possession of methamphetamine that was found in the stolen vehicle that Cotton was in. Leake County charges included possession of contraband inside of a correctional facility, felony fleeing from a law enforcement officer, speeding, reckless driving, driving on the wrong side of the road and disregard for traffic safety device.
Anyone with information that leads to the positive location and arrest of these individuals would be eligible for a reward of up to $2500.
