Tami Mann (aka Tami Mckee) has been sentenced to 40 years in a Rankin County state prison facility after pleading guilty to second-degree murder in the September 2015 death of her 20-month-old daughter, Jasmine Irwin.
According to Sheriff Tim Nail, his department was notified about a child with injuries by the state Department of Human Services.
The child died from traumatic injuries after being airlifted to a Jackson hospital from Baptist Medical Center - Attala. After hospital personnel questionned Mann’s explanation of how the injuries occurred, the Sheriff’s department took Mann and the child’s father, Jasper Irwin, into custody.
According to Nail, Mann was charged with capital murder while Irwin was released without charges.
“The mother gave us a statement and basically admitted to eveything,” he said.
Mann was held in a Leake County facility until her Monday court appearance in Winston County Court. Nail said the venue in a different county was simply due to the fact that Circuit Court is currently in session there and not in Attala County.
Mann pleaded to the lesser charge of second degree murder and will serve 35 years in prison after five years of her sentence was suspended.
