Sixteenth section land and personnel an matters dominated the Dec. 5 meeting of the Attala County School Board.
Skyland Forestry Management was awarded a contract to plant trees on 324 acres of county land at a cost of $107.25 per acre. The board also approved allowing B&G Wood to cut timber on 75 acres of county land for $182,978.
Maps Etc., LLC, was approved to conduct land mapping by drone at a cost of $6 per acre. Supt. Bryan Weaver said the project was necessitated by conditions resulting from tornado damage to timber in the area earlier this year.
Finally in land matters, a timber easement was granted for Mary and Johnny Bryant. Bus easements at the residences of J.C. and Mary Young and Daniel Englebert were also approved.
Malone Roofing was approved for a roof repair on the first and second grade classroom areas at Greenlee Elementary School.
In personnel matters, Olivia Myles was approved as a substitute teacher and Erica Rockett was approved as a handicap bus monitor.
The board gave permission for the Excel in Reading students at Greenlee Elementary School to attend a movie in Louisville, and for the Greenlee gym to be used for a Button and Bows pageant Dec. 16.
County schools will dismiss students at 12:30 p.m. Dec. 20 for the Christmas holidays and classes will resume Jan. 8.
