The annual Frontier Day in French Camp — scheduled for Saturday, May 11, this year — is always an exciting event, but this year even more so. The Mississippi Society, War of 1812, will dedicate a monument to the key role French Camp played in the war. Not only did Andrew Jackson stage in French Camp, he also returned after the battle to rest and heal his militia troops. At least three of the troops are buried in the French Camp area.
The 155th Mississippi Armored Brigade Combat Team is a direct and continuous descendent of Mississippi troops in the battle. To honor their service, French Camp has invited the entire unit, as well as their family members, to a place of honor at the event.
“May 11 will be a historic day in French Camp. All Mississippians should attend,” said Director Bo Kirby. “Families should not miss this opportunity to teach children about their great heritage. Plus, it is going to be great fun!”
The day’s events include the following:
7 a.m. - 5K Run, followed by one-mile fun run
8 a.m. - Craft booths and food booths open
9 a.m. - Car Show Begins
