Improvements at the softball field at Ethel High School are expected to get underway soon, following approval given at the Monday night meeting of the board of the Attala County School District.
Softball coach Tyler McKinley met the board and listed the needs for a handicapped walkway, concession stand and addition of bathrooms to eliminate use of facilities in the gymnasium. He outlined estimated costs of the improvements. Following his presentation, the board voted for Superintendent Bryan Weaver’s recommendation to allot $20,000 for the project.
The board gave its approval for LED lighting in the four gymnasiums of the district at a cost of $644 per month. Justin Cockrell with Premier LED, LLC in Hattiesburg, addressed the board naming services provided with the lighting which includes a warranty, maintenance and a $14,000 rebate from Entergy.
Dr. Bill Wade with Performance Based Education Company spoke to the board about the services offered by the company in providing a team of teachers to assist in classroom instruction. In an effort to improve test scores at Ethel and McAdams High Schools, the board voted to accept the services of the company at a cost of $52,800.
Approval was given to fund an ACT Boot Camp in the spring, as well.
In personnel matters, substitutes and non-certified staff members hired were Brittany Beauchamp, Kristen Holifield, Jacqueline Knight, Veronica Brooks and Rebecca Terry.
Vanessa Greer was named custodian at Long Creek Elementary.
Bus turn arounds were approved for Michael and Patricia Rosamond and the E. Lamar Burkes estate. School trips, disposal of fixed assets, district financial statement and claims, club and activity accounts were also approved.
December 21 was approved as an early release day for the Christmas holidays. School will resume on Jan. 7.
