Michael Tate, 2018 graduate of Burlington High School in Burlington, Kansas and the son of Kenn and Kim Tate, has just completed his school’s Community Connections and Career Connections program with the Tulsa District, U. S. Army Corps of Engineers, John Redmond Lake Office in Burlington. Michael said the experience taught him about the Corps of Engineers mission and helped him decide on a college major in Wildlife Ecology and Biodiversity. Grandparents Billy and Carolyn Tate of West are very proud to see Michael follow in his grandmother, sister, and brother-in-law’s footsteps as they are all employees with the Vicksburg Corp of Engineers.
Let us all remember that the Big Black River Festival is coming on Saturday, Sept. 8. Please tell all your friends and plan to attend. There will be Festival T-shirts, tickets for $200 worth of gasoline, music, food, paintings and art work. The Casey Jones Museum will be open. Music is also being provided by Big Earl of Pearl.
Buddy and Lynn Hathcock traveled to Fairhope, Ala., to visit Mary Hammond Stebbins, Lynn’s friend from college.

Brother Charlie Long had a special baptismal service on Sunday morning for Mason and Tate McLellan. Out of town guests were grandfather Lamar Sykes of Pickens; aunt Loria Hyslop and cousins Holt, Sam and Ella Hathcock of Flowood; dear friends Sam, Mandy and Marlee Baker of Vardaman and Brother Jerry Tate.
