All principals in the Attala County District will return to their positions for the 2018-2019 school year following reappointment by the board of trustees Monday.
They are Patrick Boyle, Ethel High School; Cully Newman, Greenlee Elementary; Tony Holder, Kosciusko-Attala Career Tech Center; Jackie Sandifer, McAdams High School and Deitrich Harmon, Long Creek Elementary.
The school calendar of 182 student days, seven professional development days and two inclement weather days was presented by Superintendent Bryan Weaver and approved by the board.
Approval was granted to advertise for bids on construction of the football field house at McAdams High School. Brad Carter with the firm Carter, Miller and Associates of Meridian detailed plans for the project, and Weaver said they expect to have the project completed for the beginning of the school year in August.
“We are hopeful for August, but the weather will dictate that accomplishment,” Weaver said.
In 16th section matters, Provine Helicipter was awarded the bid for site spraying on Section 16-15-5 at a cost of $54 per acre; a 30-day extension for 60 days past due fees on two leases was approved.
Students at McAdams High and Long Creek Elementary who scored advanced and proficient on state testing last year are being rewarded with out of state trips. McAdams students who qualify will visit the Tennessee Aquarium in Chattanooga and Long Creek students will visit Six Flags in Atlanta.
Personnel matters included the hiring of Arrick Newsom at Ethel High and Cindy Rigby as a substitute teaher; Tantahneah Merritt, part time janitor at Greenlee Elementary; resignation of David Bigelow.
Approval was granted for the acceptance of out-of-district students of employees and the release to Union Public School District the students of a teacher in that district.
The contract with Smiles To Go Dentistry program was renewed for the next two school years. The program provides free preventive/restorative dental treatment through the two elementary schools in the district. Weaver cited the benefits of the program giving details of the latest visit with 303 students. Fluoride varnishes were given to 303; preventive seals to 539; x-rays to 171 and cleanings to 224.
The bid of $8,850 submitted by Century Heating and Cooling was accepted for the replacement of the AC/heat unit in the McAdams gym locker room.
In honor of School Board Recognition Week, Weaver presented certificates to board members citing them for their service. They are Willie Perteet, Christy Moody, Vernita Rayford, Janice Dees and Rodger Clark.
