Attala County Emergency Manager Danny Townsend contacted The Star-Herald this morning after receiving weather updates for the coming days.
Townsend said that there are increasing chances of freezing precipitation between now and Tuesday with accumulations of at least 3/4" of ice Monday night into Tuesday. Temperatures Monday night are likely to be below 10 degrees with wind chills well below 0 degrees.
Townsend recommends making preparations Saturday and Sunday at the latest. Those preparations should include ensuring you have enough food and a non-electric heat source as power outages are highly likely.
If you do not have an appropriate heat source available, the emergency manager recommended staying with neighbors or family members, and moving to those locations by Sunday.
Townsend also said everyone should stay off the roads Monday and Tuesday unless there is a dire emergency.
