Bruce Clinton Shuler, Jr., 62, went to be with his Lord on Tuesday, December 22, 2020, at his home in the Chautauqua Park subdivision, a welcoming, loving community in Crystal Springs, MS. He was born in Augusta, GA, on Mother’s Day May 10, 1958, a much-loved and unexpected baby boy surprise after the births of his four sisters. After Bruce’s birth, his father was transferred to the Army base in El Paso, Texas. When Bruce was four, his father retired from the Army and moved the family to Ethel, MS.Bruce was baptized at age 14 and was a member of the Ethel Baptist Church. While in school at Ethel, Bruce played football and participated in the band. He was also a member of the Beta Club. Bruce was valedictorian of the Ethel High School Class of 1976, reciting a famous line in Robert Frost’s The Road Not Taken: “Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, and I took the one less travelled by.” He was a graduate of Holmes Jr. College with an emphasis of Pharmacy in Goodman, MS, and MSU in Starkville, Mississippi with a degree in Industrial Engineering. After receiving his degree at MSU, he was employed by Packard Electric Company in Clinton, MS, working there for many years. The company’s name was changed to Delphi Packard Electric Systems and Bruce transferred to Gadsden, Alabama. Bruce began working at age 9, mowing yards in Ethel, MS, and while in college worked various jobs to provide for his family. As a result, he developed a deep passion for strong, compassionate work ethic and this was very much evident upon being offered a position as Delphi’s Vice President of Overseas Operations at Seoul, Korea in 2001. He worked in Asia for 20 years: six years in Seoul, Korea; seven years in Suzhou, Jiangsu, China; two years in Kochi, Kerala, India; and five years in Shanghai, China, where he lived and worked until his retirement in April 2020. He worked for 40 years. Bruce and his family moved back to the United States and obtained their home in Crystal Springs, MS. Bruce also believed in continuous improvement of the individual, humility, and most of all, family. Bruce loved his family very much. He enjoyed traveling, sightseeing, and was a very hard worker. He had a warm heart, tried to help everybody, and he was a good man: son, brother, cousin, nephew, husband and father. Bruce was preceded in death by his parents, Clinton Shuler and Lena Clay Morgan Shuler Edwards; nephew, Brian Turnquist; niece, Ashley Rothlisburger; and sisters, Annette Shuler and Paulette Shuler.He leaves behind to mourn his passing his wife, Mia Shuler of Seoul, Korea; children, Melanie (Chuck) Daw of Hattiesburg, Ryan Shuler of Runnels, and Ethan Kang of Starkville; grandchildren, Micah, Maddie, Alexis, and Charli; sisters, Janette McCrory of Madison and Joy (Dewey) Horne of Kosciusko; and several nieces and nephews.Graveside funeral services were held at Edgefield Cemetery in McCool, MS, on Saturday, December 26, 2020. Dr. Jeremy McCrory, nephew and pastor of Friendship Baptist Church in Sturgis, MS, conducted the services.
