Bernice Oakes Miller, 89, passed away Wednesday, December 23, 2020, at St. Dominic-Jackson Memorial Hospital. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, December 29, 2020, at Brister Cemetery in the Hesterville community of Attala County. Rev. Gene Richardson will officiate. Mrs. Miller was born January 21, 1931, in Attala County to John William and Betty Lena Miller Oakes. She was a faithful member of the Unity Baptist Church.She is survived by a daughter, Carlene M. Pylate, and her husband, Irving, of Starkville, MS; two sisters, Pearlean Cummins of West, and Betty Long of Florence, MS; two grandchildren, Andrew Pylate, and his wife, Leah, of Starkville, and Mollie Smith, and her husband, Dusty of Louisville, MS; five great-grandchildren, Andley Pylate, Leni Pylate, Noah Pylate, Lena Grace Smith, and John William Smith. She also left behind a host of nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Carlton A. Miller; three sisters, Katherine Prevost, Mary Helen Luceford, and Mildred Madden Alexander; and two brothers, J.D. Oakes and Charles Oakes.Those serving as pallbearers will be Ronnie Cummins, David Miller, Larry Miller, Carlos Prevost, Andrew Pylate, Dustin Smith, and John William Smith.Memorials may be made to the Unity Baptist Church or the Brister Cemetery Fund.Jordan Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
