What is the true meaning of life?

By Gary Andrews , READ MORE > 1,054 Reads
On Tue, 11/24/2020 - 11:31 PM

Should someone come to you today and ask you to define the true meaning of life, what would you say? I have heard many people say, “I want to be happy and successful.” One must wonder what it takes to be happy and successful.

There are varied opinions of these two words and most people think of materialistic and financial wealth as the answers. Some will say “I want world peace”, and we have to ask the question what will it take to have world peace?

All of us have our worldly desires and want to accomplish as much as possible while we are living on this earth. For us that know Jesus Christ as our Savior realizes that this earthly home is only temporary and our eternal home with Jesus is forever. So again I must ask what should be our motivation for having a truly meaningful life.

Anything that we attempt as citizens of this earth is often complicated because we are seeking worldly things instead putting our trust in the one true God. More often than not we are presented with the evils, anxieties, and disappointments of life from the world and this creates the fear of death. If we would put our total trust in God, then our hopes and fears will be on where we are going to spend eternity.

I once knew a man that said he did not believe in God. His reasoning was that if God existed then there would be no chaos or turmoil on earth. He said that everything would be peaceful and all living humans would get along. His reasoning could have been correct because when God created the world it was a perfect place to be. Then He created man and woman. From that creation we all know why the world is in the shape it is today. He gave man the ability to think and reason for himself. They lost sight of God and then tried to hide and cover up their disobedience. Since man’s first experience of trusting Satan, God has allowed him to run about and rule over the ones that turn away or don’t know Jesus personally.

I, too, am guilty of wanting more than I need or have and it would be a tremendous day if man would get along in the world. This is never going to happen as long as Satan is prince of the air and rules the earth and mankind gives in to his way of thinking. We see more and more each day of the world turning away from God and giving into the wickedness of the Satan.

For the ones that study God’s Word the true meaning of life is well stated. The Prophet Isaiah tells us the true meaning of life and the true purpose is to glorify God through life. That is a difficult decision to make, and we must make it each day. Thankfully, it is a decision that allows us to enjoy God’s presence for all time.

Prayer

Thank you Lord for being with me each and every day. I pray that I hear your voice and go in the direction you lead me instead of the world. Amen.
