After reaching the Coliseum four years in row, the last two in the championship game, McAdams boys basketball was eliminated in the first round a year ago. With a solid corps returning coach Kyeson Jackson is looking forward to better times.
“I have way more depth than I had last year,” he said. “ Going into the season I feel pretty good about what I have coming back.”
Veterans include Gavin Brown, Caden Smith, Lucas Hornesbuger, Darrin Fleming, Omari Williams and Joshua Atterberry. “Those are names that I feel will have a pretty good year for us this year.”
Brown suffered a knee injury in a football game that will keep him sidelined to begin the season, but Jackson said he will return soon, possibly by Thanksgiving. “If not then, a little bit after.”
The season tips off Tuesday at J.Z. George for the Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs. Athletic director Kenyon Ross has taken over as girls coach.
The Lady Bulldogs won Region 6-1A last year and reached the 1A quarterfinals.
McAdams will compete in 5-1A with Ethel, Leake County, Nanih Waiya, Noxapater and Sebastopol.
Jackson tabbed Leake County as the strongest opponent. The Gators won 7-1A last season.
“I have a lot of respect for the coach they have over there. (Hilton Harrell). I know he’s going to have them ready when the season comes around. It’s going to be a battle every time we play them.”
As usual, the Bulldogs will face a tough schedule before beginning region play after the first of the year. Most non-region games will be against teams from larger classifications, including 4A Kosciusko and 4A Louisville.
