Kosciusko tennis began the season with victories over Neshoba Central 4-3 and Itawamba AHS 5-2 and a 5-2 loss to Eupora.
“We're definitely improved over last year,” said coach Caleb Sanders. Even the loss showed improvement from a 7-0 defeat against Eupora a year ago.
The lineup:
Boys’ singles – Daniel Van
Girls’ singles – Emmalee Myers
Boys #1 doubles – Jorge Orduna and Alexis Hernandez
Boys #2 doubles – Thomas Sims and Robert Pickle
Girls #1 doubles – Mary Patton Henderson and Kayden Tyler
Girls #2 doubles – Anna Grace Kuhn and Kayla Anderson
Mixed doubles – Eric Dotson and Olivia Cockroft
Van is 2-0 in singles with victories against Neshoba Central and Itawamba. He played mixed doubles in the Eupora match.
Kosciusko will compete in Region 4-4A with Leake Central, Louisville, Northeast Lauderdale and West Lauderdale. Sanders said West Lauderdale is the team to beat.
“If we don't beat them and do our job, we should finish second,” said Sanders.
The top two will qualify for the 4A playoffs beginning April 4.
