A group of about 35 Kosciusko First Baptist Church young people ventured in the direction of the Possumneck community this week on a bicycling excursion. Baptist youth committee co-chairman Ray Mikell said the young people went from a low four and a half to a high seven miles from the city limits before fatigue and inclement weather forced their return. The weatherman came through with a sudden shower that Mikell said drenched all but the young spirits.
Among the first blooms of cotton were reported in the county last week by Horace McMillan of Rt.2, Kosciusko. He said he planted the first cotton about April 14.
Sabrina Saxon was selected as the 1972 Cookout Champion at the Mississippi Junior Cookout Contest held recently at the State Fairgrounds in Jackson. Junior Comans of Attala County won the junior division of the cookout contest. Awards were presented by Maggi Rye, 1972 Mississippi Pork Queen.
The Lawn of the Month sign has been placed in the yard at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Simmons in Highland Park. Mr. and Mrs. Simmons are pictured at a focal point in the back yard.

Central Mississippi Fair chairman Earl Lucas went over plans for the upcoming event with co-chairman Jeff Lacey during a recent work session. The event was set for August 13-16 at the Attala County fairgrounds and coliseum.
Lt. Shelley E. Sanders assumed command of the 82nd Replacement Detachment, 82nd Solider Support Battalion in the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, N.C. Sanders is the daughter of Max and Willa Sanders of Kosciusko. The 82nd Replacement Detachment is the only airborne replacement detachment in the 82nd Airborne Division, as well as the only such detachment in the United States Army.
Dr. Kesha LaShon, Dodd of New Orleans, La., graduated in May from Xavier University of Louisiana, School of Pharmacy receiving a Doctor of Pharmacy degree. She is the daughter of James L. and Ruthie S. Dodd of New Orleans, formerly of Kosciusko. She is the granddaughter of the late John B. and Anna Simpson and the late Lawrence and Ethel H. Dood all of Kosciusko. She is employed as a pharmacist with Albertson Grocery Stores in Dallas, Texas.
Suzanne Steele of Kosciusko, a senior at the University of Mississippi, worked as an intern for U.S. Sen. Trent Lott this summer. Each year he invited college students to work in his Washington office. Interns are given the opportunity to work directly with him and his staff on legislative issues and special projects for Mississippi. She is the daughter of Gale C. Steele and Mike Steele of Kosciusko.
