From staff reports
Robert Ellis, Independent candidate for District 1 Supervisor, has withdrawn his candidacy.
Ellis, who is currently Ward 3 Alderman for the City of Kosciusko, said in a letter to the Star-Herald that he has accepted a job with Entergy and will not be able to give the supervisor position the attention it deserves.
"I have been blessed with an opportunity to go back to the workforce of Attala County with Entergy and while I would be honored with the chance to serve the people of Beat 1, I could not give the supervisor position the attention it deserves my new role," Ellis said in the letter.
Ellis was set to face off against Democratic candidate Stennis Thompson, Republican Jesse Crosby Jr, and Independent Stacy Robinson in the race for District 1 Supervisor.
Ellis said he will continue to serve in his role as alderman.
The election for District 1 Supervisor will be held on November 7, 2023.
