The Attala County Board of Supervisors accepted the completion of bridge project LSBP-04(22) in Beat Four and received an update from county engineer Christian Gardner on state aid project SAP04-17 to reseal numerous county roads at its most recent meeting.
Reseal project
The winning bid for the reseal project was received from Dickerson and Bowen, a construction company based in Jackson. Gardner said that at the project’s pre-construction conference, Dickerson and Bowen said they have been preoccupied with other jobs and have not been able to begin working in Attala County yet, but they are coming.
The company is also waiting for colder weather to arrive before proceeding in order to have optimal road work conditions.
“As they told me, ‘When cold weather comes, we are coming to see you,’” Gardner told the supervisors.
As previously reported, roads designated for resealing include Attala Road 3122 from Highway 35 across Highway 43; Attala Road 2247 from Highway 43 to the industrial park; Attala Road 3034, commonly known as Sale Barn Road, running from Highway 35 to Highway 43; Attala Road 5216, commonly known as Knox Crossing Road, running from Highway 12 to Highway 14 and crossing the Yockanookany River; Attala Road 4167 from Highway 14 North to Highway 12 in McAdams; and Attala Road 5053, otherwise known as Lower Crossing Road, from the city limits of Ethel to Highway 14.
Gardner said Dickerson and Bowen has until the beginning of March to begin work on the roads, but he expects work to begin prior to that deadline.
“I don’t know,” said Gardner, “but I do expect them to do some work before then.”
Bridge project completed
After receiving a satisfactory update from Gardner, the supervisors accepted the bridge crossing Taylor Creek on Attala Road 4210 in Beat Four. Gardner said the bridge was programmed for repair nearly three years ago. In March of 2020, the bid for LSBP-04(22) on Attala Road 4210 went to Hemphill Construction Company for $499,944.05. The work to replace the bridge and its approaches is now officially finished.
“It’s been through the process, been constructed, and now it is open to the public,” Gardner told The Star-Herald. “Cars are using the roadway now.”
Posting signs needed
Gardner also informed supervisors that some county bridges need new posting signs. Bridge 82 on Attala Road 5210 over Turkey Creek has a sign missing on one end of the bridge, Bridge 21 on Attala Road 4101 over Long Creek has a sign missing, and Bridge 104 on Attala Road 3022 over Hoss Pen Creek needs two updated signs due to a change in load rating.
Beat Five Supervisor and Board President Tim Pinkard said the signs have been ordered and should be on the way.
